The Police in Edo state yesterday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in the war-ravaged South Ibie community in Etsako West local government area of the state. According to sources close to the state police command headquarters Benin, the cache included different cut-to-size guns, AK47 rifles, general purpose machine guns and grenades.

The people of Afasho a community in Auchi Estako west local government area of Edo state and the leadership of the only Catholic Church are heading for a showdown over an alleged removal of the community shrine considered as an age long deity. LEADERSHIP gathered that the shrine named "Itsede" was allegedly removed on April 28 by member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church to an unknown location. Discovering that the shrine had been removed members of the community descended on the church and destroyed properties worth thousands of naira.

Not less than 14 persons were killed in an accident which occurred between Auchi and Ewu along the Benin-Auchi Road in the early hours of Saturday. Our correspondent gathered that 13 females and a male were killed in the accident while three others sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital at Auchi for treatment. Specifically, the three survivors were said to have been rushed to Faith Foundation Hospital by Jattu Junction, Auchi, for medical attention. According to an eye-witness the deceased women were travelling from the Igarra headquarters of the Akoko Edo Local Area of Edo State to Onitsha when the 18-seater vehicle in which they were travelling sommersaulted at a bridge by the River Edihor, killing 13 of them and an unknown male passenger.
